What to expect when you book a pet photoshoot

So you want to book a photoshoot for your pet, either as a gift to yourself, a friend, partner or loved one. But how does the process work?

Do you have a temperamental dog? A camera-shy cat, perhaps? Will you get asked to get in front of the camera?

I know you really want some memorable photos of your pet that you can cherish for a lifetime, but the whole process can be a bit jarring if you don’t know what to expect.

That’s why I’m going to walk you through the process so you know EXACTLY what to expect at each stage so you can feel more confident about booking a photoshoot to give you images you will treasure forever!

Getting in contact

You have two options for getting in contact with me: first, if you are too excited and know exactly when you want to get your pet’s photo taken, you can book a session through my calendar and I will contact you prior to accepting your appointment request!

Looking to take things slow? You can email me at joannama@tailsntrailsphotography.ca with your questions/inquiries and I will get to you as soon as possible!

Regardless of the route you take, I will ask you a few questions about your pet and photoshoot preferences:

  • How many pets would you like photos of;
  • What type of pet do you have/breed;
  • What is your pet’s temperament like;
  • Is your pet comfortable around others/are they reactive;
  • Are you interested in joining your pet’s photoshoot;
  • Any other questions that may come up in the initial conversation!

I will make sure to do a thorough questionnaire to ensure yours and your pet’s needs are met! Once both parties feel comfortable to continue forward with the photoshoot, we can then move onto planning the day.

Choosing the setting of the photoshoot

As I specialize in outdoor photography, we will need to compromise on an outdoor location. My favourite areas to shoot are dog parks like Terwillegar Park and Jackie Parker Park, but I am open to any suggestions if you and your pet have a favourite area to go to!

Alternatively, what is the option if you do not feel comfortable in a public park, you are photographing a cat, or have a reactive pet? In this case, I will offer the option of booking a Sniffspot, or a photoshoot in your backyard.

What to expect on the day of the photoshoot

So you’ve gotten in contact with the photographer, chose a setting for your photoshoot and booked the date! What next?

Three days before the photoshoot, I will send you an email to remind you of our meeting time, date and what to bring with you – don’t forget your pet!

During your pet’s session, we will go at your pet’s pace; they will never be under pressure to do anything, and it’s perfectly fine if they take our session as a time for a potty break!

Imagine you’re meeting a friend to go on a dog walk; that’s the kind of vibe you can expect during your photography session with Tails n’ Trails. The only difference is that your friend will be carrying a camera around!

What to expect after the photoshoot

After the photoshoot is when I start working my editing magic to pick the best shots out of your session and turn them into the perfect wall decoration for your pet-loving home.

It takes approximately two weeks for the edits to be completed, but once everything is finalized, you will receive an email linking you to a folder of the session gallery!

Included in your photoshoot is an online gallery (watermark included) of your session which you will be able to choose a certain amount of images to download depending on your session package.

If you are doing a full session, you will also have the option of retouching two images of your choice to make them extra special!

Can’t choose just a select number of your gallery images? Consider purchasing the whole gallery for an additional $75!

What are my options for printing?

At the moment, Tails n’ Trails Photography does not offer printing services directly, but I can direct you to photo printing areas near you if you ask!

We instead offer the option of purchasing a digital painting alongside your photo session for an additional $65 ($120 if you would like it on a physical canvas)!
